We got a call from a man who had said that he picked up some puppies there were in a box on the side of the road and he couldn't keep them. We arrived in middle of nowhere VA, 4 hours away from home, and were handed over 3 worm bellied pups. "Huh", I said, "they look like little hound puppies"... and they did with their big ears and fawn coloring. "Actually, they are pit/pug mixes" he corrected me quickly. I held my tongue but realized these puppies had not been abandoned in a box on the side of the road, they were abandoned by this man. So many people don't spay or neuter, either because they don't want to take something away from their dogs, or because they don't have the money, or because they think they'll make money off the pups.... whatever it is, please look for resources. There are too many "box on the side of the road" puppies, they are hard and expensive to raise. Too many dogs end up in shelters because they have some cancer or disease that could have been prevented with a spay or a neuter. What you're taking away from your dog is worry. We named these puppies the Wildflower puppies, this is Daisy, the most shy of the 3 sisters. She was the last to go into a foster and cried when he sisters left her. These puppies are so smart, they are already using their pads and I may be imagining it but I think I've got them to sit on command-ish.
